Metal and plastic sheds
No painting, no rot and harder to break into. If you want storage that just sits there for years, a steel or resin shed is often the sensible buy.
Galvanised steel
Steel sheds are secure and fire-resistant, and won't rot. Look for a galvanised and powder-coated finish, a floor or anchor kit, and an anti-condensation lining if you're storing tools, because bare steel sweats on cold mornings.
Plastic and resin
Resin sheds are light, easy to build and can go on a patio. They won't rust or rot and need only a wash down. They are less secure than steel and can be lifted by strong winds unless anchored.
Bigger metal buildings
If you need more than garden storage, such as a vehicle store or a yard shed, see steel building kits.

Do metal sheds get condensation?
They can. An anti-condensation lining on the roof, ventilation and a raised floor make a big difference.
Do I need a base for a plastic shed?
Yes, a level, solid base. Most come with a floor, but they still need flat paving or a concrete pad to stay square.
